The Association of Oncology Social Work (AOSW) is a non-profit, international, 501(c)3 organization with over 1000 members from around the world who are committed to advancing excellence in psychosocial care of persons with cancer, their families and their caregivers. AOSW has over twenty years of service to the oncology community. Experts in networking, education, advocacy, research, and resource development, AOSW members are champions of psychosocial interventions that enhance quality of life and survivorship of persons with cancer and their families.

AOSW has an outstanding record of achieving the following goals:

  • Increasing awareness of the psychosocial effects of cancer
  • Advancing the practice of psychosocial interventions that enhance quality of life and survivorship of persons with cancer and their families
  • Fostering communication and support among psychosocial oncology caregivers
  • Furthering the study of psychosocial and social effects of cancer through research and continuing education
  • Advocating for programs and policies to meet the psychosocial needs of oncology patients and their families
  • Promoting liaison activities with other psychosocial oncology groups and professional oncology organizations

AOSW is proud of its collaboration on the Cancer Survivor Toolbox, a self-advocacy training program for cancer survivors, the official journal of AOSW — Journal of Psychosocial Oncology (JPO), our Special Interest Groups, the Online Continuing Education courses, and our Annual Conference. We have held 22 successful annual conferences and invite you to attend our next one. We have had the privilege of co-sponsoring conferences in the past with CAPO and IPOS in Canada and was host to an oncology specialty track at The 5th International Conference on Social Work in Health and Mental Health in Hong Kong.

Our members practice in hospitals, outpatient clinics, home care and hospice agencies, community wellness programs, patient advocacy organizations and other settings. We connect persons diagnosed with cancer, and their families, with essential community, state, national, and international resources. We do this as part of the oncology team. We are as diverse as the clients and communities we serve.
